Ever find yourself researching for a project on a website and then coming across a " YOU HAVE WON 1, 000, 000 DOLLARS " ad ? or maybe even a " CLICK NOW AND WIN INSTANTLY " ad ? which makes you think you ACTUALLY won something when you really didn't ? well, we've all been there, and we all once believed that we did but that's not the point. the point is how easily someone can go from doing a research project to thinking their a millionaire in about 5 minutes. & also remember when all your parents told you ever since the start of school was STUDY STUDY STUDY, WORK HARD HARD HARD ! well ...today in class we read an article called " Work Ethic 2.0: Attention Control " the article tells us how " focusing and actually WORKING " actually helps you complete your task ! who would have ever thought that actually working can help us finish our task, huh ? (joke) many people spend days and days working on simple assignments that they can complete in a day's amount of time, but don't because they simply aren't putting any effort into it. Over the summer my uncle would watch me spend endless amounts of time on the laptop doing nothing productive other than chatting with 4-5 people on msn & browsing all these websites at once while trying to finish a religious assignment said " how on earth are you concentrating on either thing " I never really understood what he meant until this article .. it elaborated alot because if i spent the extra few minutes doing the assigment than talking to the people it would have taken me no more than a good 30 minutes . This quote "Control of attention is the ultimate individual power " by Malcolm Gladwell is very agree able the reason why I say this is because If you can put your mind to something and try to acomplish it you will because its in you to and your determined that you can do it. For example: If you had a party after school & had to finish all your homework before you could go. you would pay more atention to the work your doing than what brad pitt wore to the junos last night 8-) its as easy as that. The article also says how easy distractions are, for example while writing this reflection my mom had asked me several questions about my day throwing me off topic and made me lose my atention on this and focus more on how my day went. The article states that " atention " is more important than doing " hard work " because when your paying atention to something your focused on it & all your thoughts and ideas are given into whatever your doing. " hardwork " can be inserted on to any thing for example someone can spend a day doing " hard work " on microsoft excel and not really be doing anything at all. Many kids now days are introduced to all theese programs & things that are mechanical like those books that talk and tvs that read stories for you, whatever happened to bed time stories ? kids now days are introduced to things that are highly amusing & fun otherwise no one cares .. but its not only kids having to deal with that many people my age also have a hard time focusing in class, sometimes because they dont understand what the teacher is teaching and sometimes because they just aren't used to being taught the way that the teacher is. but at the end of the day its not the teachers to blame its the fact that the atention span of many people is not very long . alot of the times distractions are very easy and are just waiting to happen. people that spend their time multitasking are really not getting any work done at all; it may seem like their getting a whole lot of work done but their just spending their time not getting anythingg done :)? .. " The need for "attention," rather than "hard work," as the centerpiece of the new work ethic has arisen along with the rise of distractions carried on the wings of Internet protocol " this quote says how critical attention is while doing any sort of work. a person can spend a whole day doing hard work and not get anything done . for example: the iphone they took a normal phone and added a whole bunch of distractions to it like games, maps, calculators and other useless applications on it .
